Jeff Gehring, Sixth Grade Teacher
Sixth Grade Homeroom: Sixth grade is an exciting year! For the first time, students are able to integrate with the Jr. High students changing classrooms between subjects, and having just one afternoon break time. Students are not allowed to participate in special Jr. High Events, such as the evening dances, as that privilege is still reserved for 7th and 8th grade.
Religion: Concentrates on four major subject areas: Old Testament, Sacraments, Liturgy, and Scripture.
Language Arts: Grammar and Literature Students study various genres and go through the elements of literature through a variety of methods. Writing is focused on narrative and expository as well as formal methods. Vocabulary Lessons are taught by the homeroom teacher and students use the same series book as used by Salpointe Catholic High School. So, by the time the student reaches 8th grade, they demonstrate a high proficiency in language and word usage.
Math: Concentrated emphasis on speed with facts along with proficiency in addition and subtraction of fractions and decimals. Math will be aligning with Common Core Standards in the Fall of 2014.
History: Students can expect to concentrate on Ancient Civilizations such as Egypt and Mesopotamia and even create a real mummy!
